About Puerto Escondido:
”A magnet for surfers, would-be surfers and every other kind of beach lover, this ‘Hidden Port’ is one of the most enjoyable spots on Mexico’s Pacific coast. By day, you can surf, snorkel, dive, swim, tan, go sportfishing or look for turtles, dolphins and whales. By night, a busy cafe, restaurant and bar scene brings live music and a freewheeling, unpretentious nightlife. Development here has happened gradually over several decades and remained on a human scale, and part of Puerto's charm is that it remains very much a fishing port and market town as well as a tourist destination.” ~ Lonely Planet
What I love about Puerto Escondido and the Oaxaca region is that it's a slight detour off the "Gringo Trail" of typical Mexican tourism. Like all super sweet surf spots, "Bad roads lead to good surf" and Puerto Escondido's Playa de Zicatela aka the Mexican pipeline is just that. The state of Oaxaca is made up of steep mountainsides, winding roads and lush tropical valleys and lagoons, and is bordered on the west by the wild Pacific Ocean. Zicatela remains untouched by American big box retail and franchise but has all the amenities you could need for a beachside vacation with more than just Mexican charm. The neighbourhood of La Punta- right next door to Zicatela- will be our home base for our week on retreat. Shops and restaurants are all within walking distance of our villa- and the main surf break- La Punta de Zicatela is right there too! January weather is typically dry and sunny and the ocean swell is low to moderate, making the surf ideal for beginners and fun for intermediate surfers. Smaller swell is also ideal for Stand Up Paddle touring, SUP surfing and even makes SUP Yoga a possibility on the ocean! Not comfortable in the surf- no problem- the villa's private pool will be our peaceful refuge for the week- and there's even the possibility for some Pool SUP Yoga. Having spent time in Puerto Escondido before, I'll be your personal tour guide for the week - not just your Yoga teacher. I've purposely left most of our days OPEN for us to build our own adventures- it's your retreat after all! Feel free to join me on some of my favorite tours, rent a surf board and catch some waves, learn to salsa, check out the best taqueria's and markets in town or simply nap in a lounge chair with a cool coco frio!
About the villa:
Located in Brisas de Zicatela, a residential neighbourhood, just a 5 minute walk to La Punta de Zicatela-the surf break, shops, and restaurants. This 3 story villa with sweeping views over La Punta will be our home base for our 10 day retreat. The villa is modern and spacious with 4 bedrooms, 3 bathrooms, a private pool and a roof top palapa covered deck which will be our YOGA space. We have a fully equipped kitchen where we will enjoy our daily breakfast smoothie bowls but we can also use for our own meal preparation - if we can resist the temptation of the many fabulous restaurants nearby! There are ceiling fans in each bedroom for our comfort and each room is equipped with AC if we need. We have the whole villa to ourselves and this retreat is limited to 6 people!
Additional Activities (not included- but easily arranged on arrival and VERY AFFORDABLE):
